Did You Know…

  • 84% of clothing today ends up in landfills or incinerators.

  • Less than 1% of clothing is reused.

  • Every second, a truckload of clothing is landfilled or burned.

  • More than $500 billion USD of value is lost every year due to clothing underutilization.

  • If we continue on this current path, by 2050 the fashion industry could be responsible for more than 1/4 of the 1.5 degree global warming budget allotted by the IPCC.

Upcycle as a Service

There comes a point in time when a garment reaches the end of its usable life. Most of these items would end up in the landfill. However, significant value can still be captured from these textiles. The Tersus design team takes these end-of-life garments and diverts them from the landfill by extracting all usable parts from the garments and combining these parts to create a completely unique upcycled garment that meets the highest quality standards. Our team designs and produces garment masterpieces.

2nd RND Down Recycling

Quality down is a precious resource - one that should never end up in a landfill! But what happens to the down in damaged jackets or sleeping bags? At Tersus, we extract the down from our brand partners’ end-of-life garments and gear to be CO2 cleaned, restored, and recycled. Our 100% recycled down then re-enters the supply chain as a raw material to create a fully circular, new garment.

 Climate Action

The textile industry is fueling the global climate crisis. From production, to chemical pollution, microfiber runoff, shipping emissions, clothing landfills and incinerators, and air and water pollution, the textile industry is dirty. We are committed to reducing our carbon footprint by helping our brand partners bolster their sustainability efforts to further impact the industry as a whole. Our innovative cleantech is more energy and water efficient than traditional cleaning methods. Tersus’ energy, carbon, and water savings are calculated and tracked for internal and external reporting. This allows us to continue improving our methods and share our combined environmental impacts. Our climate commitment is constantly evolving as we discover more ways we can help brands reach their sustainability goals. Through these partnerships, Tersus has made a significant savings in 2021, exceeding our goal of 2X savings from 2020.

We invite you to hold us accountable in our fight against fast fashion. Our cleantech and robust suite of services lead the charge in sustainability by advancing the cleaning, repairing, recycling, and upcycling processes. To support full transparency, we’ve highlighted some of our key initiatives, accomplishments, and goals for a sustainable future.

  • Eliminating Micro Plastics

    • Did You Know: Micro plastics from clothing contribute to about 35% of the plastic polluting our ocean.

    • Accomplishments: Our cleantech is equipped with advanced technology that captures microfibers during the cleaning process.

    • Our Goal: Continue to scale and leverage our microfiber innovation via our proprietary cleantech and by adapting our innovations to accommodate other cleaning methodologies.

  • Closed-Loop Recycled LCO2 Cleaning System

    • Did You Know: Traditional dry cleaning uses an immense amount of energy and toxic chemicals. This traditional cleaning method contributes to climate change, pollution, and human health effects.

    • Accomplishments: Our best in class cleantech was designed to utilize CO2 as a byproduct from industrial waste. Tersus’ recycled LCO2 cleaning solution is 100% waterless and requires zero dry time, resulting in considerable energy savings.

    • Our Goal: Continue to educate our industry and expand our partner base in order to drive a meaningful positive impact to our planet and its inhabitants. By the end of 2022, Tersus strives for a savings of over 1.5 million gallons of water, 740,000 KwH of energy, 500+ tons of emissions, and 2.6 million pounds of clothing from the landfill.

  • Zero Waste

    • Did You Know: 84% of clothing today ends up in landfills or incinerators.

    • Accomplishments: We are a zero waste facility. Nothing that passes through our facility goes to a landfill or incinerator. This is our promise to our partners.

    • Our Goal: Save over 2 million pounds of clothing from the landfill in 2022.
